Creating a Unified National Digital Archive

The client was a government agency interested in large-scale digitization and increasing transparency of internal processes. The main goal was to develop a national platform that would unite thousands of archival documents, books and manuscripts into a single secure database with convenient access for citizens. The project was initiated due to the absence of a centralized repository: valuable historical materials were scattered, and the process of studying them was difficult. The task was not just to create a storage facility, but also to ensure legal content distribution, support for audiobooks, and implement strict security and import substitution standards for reliable operation at the government level.

Client Request: Lack of Unified Database and Complex Access

The agency faced the inability to quickly search and legally distribute cultural heritage. Scattered archives, fragile manuscripts and lack of digital copies hindered the development of educational projects. It was necessary to automate digitization, implement recognition of old texts and create a user-friendly interface for reading in the national language with mobile device support.

Solution: Launching a Cross-Platform Ecosystem

We divided the project into stages: from designing database architecture to releasing the mobile application. First, we launched an MVP web version with a basic reader and catalog. Then we implemented pipelines for automatic translation and OCR recognition of scans. At the final stage, we implemented a mobile application with offline mode, progress synchronization and an advanced content monetization system.

Stack: Python, FastAPI, Next.js, Flutter, PostgreSQL

The choice of technologies was driven by requirements for high load and security. Python and FastAPI ensured fast API request processing and integration with AI translation modules. Next.js allowed us to create an SEO-optimized web portal. Flutter reduced mobile development costs by providing a single codebase for iOS and Android. Elasticsearch guaranteed instant search across thousands of documents.

Impact: Complete Archive Digitization and Fast Access

The platform has been successfully launched for public access, ensuring complete digitization of the target cultural heritage. Content loading speed has been reduced to a record 0.6 seconds, and rendering of complex text formats (DOCX, EPUB, PDF) is performed in more than 95% of cases without a single error. Implementation of automated OCR and translation pipelines has reduced manual layout work several times over, allowing rapid addition of new materials to the library.

Future Plans - Automatic Translation and Scaling

Platform development includes integration of neural networks for simultaneous translation of books into other world languages. This will allow downloading materials not only in the local language but will also expand the portal's global audience. Implementation of social features for authors and advanced analytics is also being prepared.
